On August 26, 1970, Wayne Shorter recorded two separate albums for Blue Note (the other one is Moto Grosso Feio), his final projects for the label. For this set, Shorter (doubling on tenor and soprano) utilizes a double rhythm section comprised of vibraphonist Dave Friedman, guitarist Gene Bertoncini, both Ron Carter and Cecil McBee on basses, drummers Billy Hart and Alphonse Mouzon, and percussionist Frank Cuomo. On the verge of joining Weather Report (referred to in the liner notes as "Weather Forecast"), it is not surprising that Shorter's originals include titles such as "Wind," "Storm," and "Calm." These moody works were never covered by other jazz players but they work quite well in this context, launching melancholy flights by Shorter. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
Hmm... I usually respect Yanow's opinion, but I think he's way off base here. Odyssey Of Iska is much more than "moody works" and "melancholy flights"!

I've been on a Weather Report jag lately, digging all their stuff from the 1st LP to the (unfairly maligned) eighties stuff. I'm looking forward to digging this Shorter LP. I'll be back later with a (weather) report on my impressions. :)
thanks for posting this hard-to-find Shorter.
excellent shorter lp,heavy atmosphere, final track is gripping, thank you.
I posted elsewhere (Call it Anything) that although this was recorded on 26th August 70, Motto Grosso Feio was recorded some months earlier (3rd April) contrary to what the record sleeve says.
Great record though.
Truly tremendous! Great to have it digitally, since I only have it vinyl. Wasn't it released on CD in the early 90s?
I believe it has been released on CD at least a couple of times - once in the late 80s and once in the early 90s. I bought my vinyl copy in one of the best jazz stores I've ever visited; Andra böcker och skivor in Sthlm!
This is perhaps the best download I've come across on a blog - and I haven't even listened to it yet! I've been looking for this for several years, and the only copies available are ridiculously overpriced 2nd hand CDs or LPs, so it's a real pleasure to finally be able to get my hands on it. Thanks very much!
listening now - what a cool album, never seen it before... thanks nunne!
A truly great album, I had it in the 70's, just found a new vinyl copy. Never seen it on cd, they cost a fortune.

I have been reading and looking for some information and it is amazing and disturbing how many blogs related to Buy Viagra, Viagra, Generic Viagra are in the web. I know that they are products that many people use and need, but it is funny to watch so many information about those products. Anyway your inputs for this subject are very interesting.
